Quokka the “world’s cutest and happiest animal.” The quokka, is the member of the genus Setonix, is a small macropod, which also includes kangaroos and wallabies are about the size of a domestic cat.

It lives only in Australia, they’re the only land mammal on Rottnest Island, and have become something of a tourist attraction. They are mostly active at night, preferring to rest or sleep in the shade during the day.

The animal prefers thick vegetation, inhabits island swamps and thickets off the coast of West Australia. These plant-eaters hang out in clans, munch on swamp peppermint and other greens, store fat in their tails for lean times, dig tunnels through vegetation for napping and hiding.

Quokkas have adapted to human presence in their environment in admirable fashion. No matter how cute they look and you just want to snuggle, you can’t touch a quokka. Rottnest Island authorities will slap a $300 fine on anyone caught touching a quokka. Whether the fine is intended to protect the quokkas.

That’s because wild quokka populations are declining as invasive predators like foxes and cats move into quokka territory.

There is no perfect explanation behind the Quokka’s cute Mona Lisa smile. People assume that they are just happy all the time.

It’s very friendly and doesn’t mind to pose for selfies with the tourists. They don’t seem to mind posing for some Instagram-worthy pictures.

We have collected some of the cutest photos of Quokka.
